Please answer the following questions using Academic Search Premier.  Click on Edit Page and enter the password library.  Enter your name and email address.  Be sure to uncheck the box to receive notifications.  Type your answer below each question.  When finished, click Save.

 

For this exercise, pretend you are doing research on the salaries of professional athletes.

 

1. Do a search for professional athletes.  Do not set any limits.  How many results do you get?

 We have results of 4,410 when no limits were set.

 

 

 

2. Do a new search for "professional athletes," making sure to put the term in quotation marks.  How many results do you get this time?

  When putting professional athletes in quotes we got a result of 1,319.

 

 

 

3. Add salaries to your search.  How many results do you get now?

 We now get results of 46 articles, magazines, and newspapers.

 

 

 

4. Look at the full record for the first article in the list.  Type the name of the article and a sentence or 2 on what the article is about.

 The title of the article is "Groupie Love."

The article is about a professional athelte giving his account on groupies that surround him, when all he is really looking for is love.

 

 

 

5. Return to your list of results.  Find a scholarly/academic article in the list.  Type the title of the article and explain how you know it is scholarly.  List 3 reasons.  "We clicked on Academic Journals" and "We limited to peer review" are not acceptable reasons.

 We chose the article entitled, "Sports Fans, Athletes' Salaries, and Economic Rent."

We know it is scholarly because looking at the Author's credentials under the author affiliations.

The article address critical issues like athlete's salaries along with being a professionl athlete.

 

 

 

6. Type 1 or 2 synonyms or related terms for professional athletes and salaries.  How did you come up with these terms?  (Hint: Subjects, Thesaurus, brainstorming)

Professional athletes synonyms: sports players

Salaries synonyms: income, money

 

 

 

 

 

7. Could you truncate professional athletes, salaries, or any of the synonyms from question 6?  (You could.)  Pick one term and type the truncated term below.
