Please evaluate the FAIR Web site by answering the questions below.  Answer the questions in complete sentences.  The answers cannot all be found on the front page of the Web site.  You need to click on the links on the left side of the site (Doing Research?, About FAIR, etc) and on the bottom of the site (FAQs, etc).  Answers may be spread out over 2 or more pages of the site.

 

 

1. Content: What types of information does the site contain?  What specific issues does the site address? 

The website is a political site, which talks about legal and illegal immigration and the policies and changes being made in our country.

 

 

 

2. Currency: Is the information on the site up to date?  How do you know?

 The site is up to date because there are articles from 2008 and are listed in the "Latest US Immigration Reform News" section.

 

 

 

3. Purpose: What is the purpose of FAIR?  What are its principles?

 It is a non-profit organization that shares ideas and beliefts that common people have on immigration policies. FAIR has seven principles of true comprehensive immigration reform.  They are: Cut the numbers, No Amnesty or Mass Guest-Worker Program, Protect Wages and Standards of Living, Major Upgrade in Interior Enforcement, Led by Strong Employers Penalties, Stop Special Interest Asylum Abuse, Immigration Time Out and Equal Under the Law. 

 

 

 

4. Reliability & Accuracy: Can you rely on the information on this site?  Why or why not?  Where does the site gets its information?  Is there a list of references?  Are the sources cited?  Is FAIR used by other sources?  What do those other sources say about FAIR?

 Most people say that it is important and FAIR is a reliable source.

 

 

5. Authority: Who are some people on the board of directors of FAIR?  Who are the media experts?  What are their credentials?  Do any of them have careers related to immigration?

 Some of the people that are on the board of directors of FAIR are, Nancy Anthony, who is the president of of Fernwood Advisors, Edith Blodgett who is the president the Blodgett Foundation, and Henry Buhl who is the founder of the not-for-profit Association of Community Employment for the Homeless.

 

6. Point of View: Look back to question 3, purpose.  Does FAIR have a biased or un-biased viewpoint?  Is FAIR trying to persuade you to think one way or another?  If so, what is it trying to make you think?

 

 

 

 

7. Ease of use: Is the site easy to navigate?  Could you quickly and easily find what you were looking for?

 

 

 

 

8. Relevancy: You are probably not actually using this site in your research paper, so you cannot evaluate its relevancy to your thesis.  How could this site be used in a paper on immigration reform?
